Athletics Update

Football
The football team's season ended at the hands of the #1 seeded Southwest EC High School Friday night 39-21. The Matadors felt confident traveling to El Centro again this year and facing the wishbone offense run by their opponent. What they didn’t account for was the passing game that Eagles also possessed giving up some big plays on third down and falling short of reaching the semi finals of Division III. The football team ended with a 5-7 record but had some players recognized for their efforts on the field. All League and Academic Awards.

Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team looks to continue their dominance in the Grossmont League as they begin action on Tuesday Nov 28 with a home contest versus Brawley High School. The game time is schedule for 12:40 and will feature some special visitors from Lemon Grove Academy. The ladies open the season in the top 10 and are led by Cam Douglass and Laila Smith.

Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team begin their season under the direction of a new coach. Ernie Reyes III begins his tenure after finishing his career at SDSU. The coach is excited about his team that only features 3 returning players but have a compliment of players coming up from the JV team which he previously coached. Look for this team to make an immediate impact in league and possibly a trip to the Division III playoffs.

Matador Sportfishing Begins Their 4th Season

For the 4th year, Matadors have the opportunity to go sportfishing with Club Advisor David Jones. They had a great day on the water. Fishing was fair on the Premier (PM), nothing spectacular. Students and a few parents had a wonderful experience and put a few fish in the bag to take home. Thanks to all who support this program for our students and community. Next scheduled trip is December 17th.

GCCCD Outreach Visits

Outreach visits are continuing on 11/30 and 12/14. Meet with representatives from Grossmont and Cuyamaca College for information on their schools. Sign-up in the Counseling Office!
